In just a few months, the start-up founded by Alex Wiltchko has screened thousands of molecules using its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) model, dubbed olfactory intelligence (OI). The company already developed its own captives and is now announcing the creation of Generation, a new AI-powered fragrance house.

Digitalizing the fragrance creation process

According to its founders, Generation’s mission is to create fragrances with more precision and creativity than ever before by combining exclusive ingredients, advanced formulation tools, and real-world market intelligence together through the use of OI.

Fragrance is deeply personal, but until now, creating it has been slow, uncertain, and often out of reach,” said Alex Wiltschko, founder and CEO of Osmo. “We developed olfactory intelligence to give brands more intuitive, data-driven, and creative ways to design fragrances. This isn’t just about making the process faster, but also smarter and more expressive to help brands create extraordinary products that resonate with consumers, comply with shifting regulations, and stand out in a crowded market.

OI, for instance, is capable of transforming text or images into perfume formulas. "The OI reads and understands what you’ve shown it. It maps the input to a scent. And with the help of a perfumer, it generates a fragrance sample on the spot," emphasized Alex Wiltschko.

From that initial sample, Generation will start iterating with customers to create the final product.

Exclusive fragrance ingredients

At launch, Generation introduces three exclusive fragrance ingredients, Glossine, Fractaline and Quasarine, all three created using OI technology.

These ingredients are already being leveraged by some of the world’s leading beauty and personal care brands to offer new olfactive experiences that weren’t possible before,” stated Osmo in a release.

However, beyond new ingredients, Generation aims to streamline the entire fragrance development process, helping brands move from idea to market more efficiently.

All this, Osmo assures, is done with sustainability and safety in mind.

We use AI for what humans cannot do or cannot do well. The technology screens billions of molecules to identify unique olfactory safety or environmental properties,” explained Christophe Laudamiel, in-house perfumer at Osmo, in a recent interview with Premium Beauty News.

The new fragrance house is also welcoming Florence Bagneris to the team as Vice President of Sales. With 20 years of experience in the fragrance industry, she most recently led sales for Prestige’s fine fragrance and developed strategic partnerships at DSM-Firmenich.
