Syensqo (the company formed from Solvay’s speciality chemicals business) builds on the portfolio of biobased functional ingredients and natural ceramides resulting from the acquisition of South Korean supplier JinYoung Bio with the launch of Cerafy, a range of biomimetic ceramides for skin care and hair care applications.

Protecting skin against dryness

Cerafy Pure NPo, the first product in the range, is a pure ceramide 3 solution that addresses the decrease in natural ceramide levels within the skin.

The ingredient is specifically designed to replenish the skin’s natural ceramide levels that decrease over time and with exposure to environmental aggressors. According to Syensqo, it helps protect skin against dryness by preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) thus fighting against premature aging by revitalizing the skin’s barrier function.

Ceramides are pivotal in maintaining the skin’s integrity, acting as a protective barrier in the outermost layer of the skin to lock in moisture and shield against environmental damage,” said Léa Seidenbinder, Global Skin Care Marketing Manager at Syensqo. “With Cerafy, we enable formulators to develop responsible and personalized skin care routines that help restore, protect and maintain the skin’s beauty and health.

State-of-the-art biotech process

The launch of Cerafy demonstrates Syensqo’s commitment to rapidly grow its Beauty Care business and portfolio toward more natural and innovative skin care solutions.

Like the entire range, Cerafy Pure NPo is manufactured by a unique fermentation process, a state-of-the-art biotechnology allowing the creation of chemical specialties based on renewable carbon.

More broadly, Syensqo emphasizes that its Cerafy range brings unparalleled benefits to cosmetic products, including to dermo-cosmetics, one of the fastest-growing segment in the category.

Toujours selon Syensqo, natural ceramides are also key active ingredients for hair care and skin cleansing formulations. To that end, the company will focus its research and innovation efforts on further developing dedicated solutions within the Cerafy range over the coming months.
