Developed through a partnership between Meiyume and Eastman, the new Crystal Halo Cap leverages on the two companies’ expertise in product design, materials technology and engineering. It comes hot on the heels of Clear Crystal Case, a transparent mono-material recyclable PET compact, which was launched last May.

A transparent PET cap

Crystal Halo Cap is a dual-component cap that combines crystal-like transparency with practical benefits, including compatibility with most perfumes, eco-friendliness, and affordability. Its thick-walled design offers the clarity and elegance brands expect from high-end materials like ionomer resins (such as Surlyn).

But what truly makes the Crystal Halo Cap special is its innovative use of PET. Indeed, Meiyume and Eastman were able to maintain the aesthetic qualities of ionomer resins while also offering the enhanced eco-friendliness and cost-effectiveness of PET.

In the ever-evolving world of beauty and fragrance, the quest for packaging that’s both unique and eco-friendly has never been more crucial. As brands face the challenge of blending elegance with environmental responsibility, the Crystal Halo Cap emerges as a shining example of what’s possible,” highlights Meiyume in a statement.

Reduced carbon footprint

According to Eastman and Meiyume, the Crystal Halo Cap represents a leap forward in prestige packaging and it has the potential to be a game-changer in the industry.

First, it is crafted from PET, a resin that has a lower carbon footprint than Surlyn and is easily recyclable. It can also include up to 100% molecular recycled PCR material, depending on the brand requirements.

Then, unlike many other caps, the Crystal Halo Cap uses mechanical assembly instead of glue, making it truly mono-material.

Furthermore, compared to ionomer resins (e.g. Surlyn), PET is not only more eco-friendly it is also more affordable.

Eventually, as far as aesthetic is concerned, Meiyume creative team overcame a significant technical challenge by achieving crystal-clear transparency with PET. The cap’s two-component design allows for a large array customization possibilities. Brands can tint the PET, play with colour combinations between the liner and outer layer, and even modify the shape.

Extensive quality testing

To be sure the new cap meets the high standards of the fragrance industry rigorous testing have been performed.

Fragrance compatibility was tested with ten different fragrance bulks. The Crystal Halo Cap passed the tests in eight cases, standing up as a reliable alternative to traditional materials in most cases.

According to Meiyume, withstanding drop tests from one meter, the cap also proved it can handle everyday use. While extensive soaking and aging tests showed no signs of crystallization, colour change, shrinkage, or degradation in the cap’s opening force.

For those who didn’t see it in Monaco, Meiyume will be showcasing this innovation at Cosmopack Asia in Hong Kong, from November 12th to 14th, 2024.
