Geltrap is one of Seppic’s most popular technologies. This patented cold-processed gel-in-oil emulsion is energy efficient and can be produced with low shear equipment. Extra-rich in water, it offers various viscosities but also the ability to stabilize all types of oily phase and provides an emollient sensation, a protection against dehydration and water resistance. It also presents benefits for specific applications such as providing an easier combing in hair care application and a long lasting scent in perfuming cosmetics.
Meeting the demand for natural formulas
In order to meet the demand for formulas that present a high rate of naturality while providing a high level of sensory performance, Seppic explored the possibility of formulating a natural version of its patented Geltrap technology.
The challenge for Seppic teams was to keep those several advantages for both formulators and consumers while replacing the synthetic rheology modifier (Sepiplus 400 or Sepinov EMT 10) and emulsifier (Easynov) that were originally recommended.
For the new 100% natural version, the high internal aqueous phase is thickened with Solagum GM, a 100% natural origin (as defined by the ISO 16 128 standard), a non-ionic gum derived from Glucomannan, while the low external oily phase is stabilized by a liquid glycolipidic emulsifying system containing Fluidanov 20X, a 100% natural origin multifunctional liquid co-emulsifier.

Solagum GM is extracted from the tubers of Amorphophallus muelleri, a tropical plant also authorized in China according to STSC [1]. “It provides extra thickening and moisturizing properties, with a pleasant, cushioning and comfortable skin feel,” says Seppic in a media release.
Seppic will showcase this new fully natural version of its Geltrap technology at the next in-cosmetics Global tradeshow, which will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on April 08-10, 2025.
