The beauty industry is constantly on the lookout for increasingly eco-responsible and efficient innovations. Addressing reactive skin, Seppic offers EQUIBIOME™, an eco-designed active ingredient with valuable traceability and phytochemistry. By providing favorable conditions for a biodiverse skin-microbiota ecosystem, it provides the skin barrier function.
Merging tradition and technology to offer an eco-designed solution
Traditionally, Great Burdock (Arctium lappa) has been used for over 3,000 years to improve overall health making its therapeutic uses widely documented. Particularly, this plant has been used as a topical remedy to treat skin disorders (eczema, acne, psoriasis, …).
Coming from the core of the roots of the plant, EQUIBIOME™ is obtained by a unique and sustainable manufacturing process using aeroponic culture [1].
It’s a soilless plant culture system in which pesticides-free nutrient solutions are misted onto the plant roots suspended directly in the air. It allows efficient production and extraction of rare root metabolites without damaging the plant integrity. Then, EQUIBIOME™ offers a novel compound distribution with higher content of different molecules than classical root extracts.
Everything is a question of balance
There are various biotopes tightly associated with the epidermis surface where the skin microbiota lives. As such, skin is the site of intense and delicate cell-microbe interactions and any disturbance of this balance may lead to skin disorders such as skin barrier disruption or excessive inflammation thus increasing skin sensitivity.
By managing skin-microbiota relationships, EQUIBIOME™ balances the inflammatory response and maintains a functional skin barrier, for a perfect and harmonious skin.
In vitro, EQUIBIOME™ balances the skin microbiota, acting as peacekeeper for the microbial communities and strengthens the skin barrier function by managing inflammatory processes. Thus, it promotes microbiota biodiversity for a harmonious ecosystem.
Tested in vivo on volunteers with very dry and/or sensitive skin and vs placebo, EQUIBIOME™ was found to have powerful soothing properties by reducing both skin redness (-60%) and stinging/burning sensations (-28%) after 14 days of product application. EQUIBIOME™ was also able to promote skin moisturization (+62%) after 7 and 21 days of application.
