Croda Beauty Actives is anticipating regulation evolution by eliminating Per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances from the synthesis process of its peptides.
The company said that Biopeptide CL™, Maxi-Lip™, Bio-Bustyl PH™, Matrixyl Synthe 6™, Volulip™, Silverfree ™, Biopeptide EL™, Dermaxyl™, Calmosensine™ and Idealift™ are already TFA-free [1] and that more will be progressively added to this list in the upcoming months to reach PFAS-free status for the company’s entire range of peptides by the end of 2026.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as "forever chemicals," are a group of over 10,000 synthetic compounds used in various products, including cosmetics, for their water- and grease-resistant properties. These substances have raised significant environmental and health concerns due to their persistence in nature and potential toxicity.
In Europe, several PFAS are restricted under REACH, and 14 PFAS are already prohibited for use in cosmetics due to their carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity properties. General PFAS restriction is currently under proposal by the ECHA. In the US, some states have banned cosmetics containing intentionally added PFAS.
“In advance of regulation evolution, we remain committed to providing innovative solutions that meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy,” said Croda in a media statement.
