With nude make-up currently a hot trend, freckles are making a comeback, meaning those who don’t have them naturally need a bit of extra help. Enter Topshop, which has just unveiled a freckle pencil intended to give a natural finish.
The British brand’s freckle pencil has a special feature: instead of a pencil in a single brown shade, this one offers two mixed tones, for a result that is less even and more natural. Available in shops as of July, the pencil is to cost about £8 ($13).
Not an entirely new idea, freckle pencils have already been launched by brands such as & Other Stories, Lancôme and Sephora.
Before that, the DIY method involved using an eyebrow pencil and was the technique of choice for Topshop Unique makeup artist Hannah Murray. If you favor this method, try using two pencils in different shades to avoid a look that’s too even, and choose a pencil with a dry tip as it will last longer.
For those who try the new pencil or stick with the classic technique, Hannah Murray suggests to "tap the pencil onto the skin in rapid motions and, if necessary pat gently with your ring finger to soften. For the most natural finish, freckles should be random."
