The jury of the Recreate Packaging 2014 have singled out six finalists to compete for the victory in the final round of the design competition. This year’s theme was: “Rethinking travel packaging”.

All of the finalists presented excellent new ideas on how to enable easy travelling with all beauty and healthcare essentials packed along,” commented cardboard supplier Stora Enso, who co-organises the competition with the Aalto University in Helsinki.

A few finalists came up with ideas for travel-size packaging solutions for hair and body care, but amongst the nominated designs there was also a shaving set and more comprehensive packaging concepts for a variety of products.

The jury was impressed by the high quality of the entries, which showed how the versatility of the materials encouraged the designers to use their creativity and come up with new and interesting visions,” said jury chairman Prof. Mikko Koria of the International Design Business Management (IDBM) Program at Aalto University School of Business.

There were altogether 118 entries in the competition, submitted by both professional designers and design students worldwide. The jury paid attention to the functionality of the design and how pleasant and easy it was to use, as well as its aesthetic appeal. Innovation in the use of materials, retail and logistics performance, as well as production potential were also included as part of the judging criteria.
