The Japanese cosmetics giant has decided to build a new production site in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Dubbed Shiseido Kyushu Fukuoka Factory, the new plant is slated to start its operation in 2021 and will mainly manufacture skincare products for Japan and overseas markets.

According to Shiseido, this 40-50 billion yen investment will help the group to address the rising demand for cosmetic products both in Japan and abroad. The company forecasts a production capacity of 140 million items per year, thus ranking as a mid-size capacity unit out of the group’s six factories in Japan.

The new plant will comply with the ISO 22716 standard on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for cosmetics. “It will utilize cutting-edge facilities and advanced technologies such as IoT in the creation of innovation, and will operate in an environmentally friendly manner while being able to support our business continuity plan (BCP), aiming to exist in harmony with the surrounding environment including mountains and rivers”, adds the company.
