Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics opened its Korean affiliate in early February and began its commercial activity at the end of March. Furthermore, the group is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the launch of Avène in China. China is now one of the group’s three leading international markets and Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics aims to double its turnover there in the next 5 years.

Korean subsidiary

Since 2002, Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics has been retailing Avène, Ducray and A-Derma brand products in the Korean market through the partner distributer Yuhan Corporation. When this distribution contract reached its term in December 2012, Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics decided to create an affiliate with the aim of bolstering its commercial business, but also of contributing to the development of dermo-cosmetics in Korea.

Korean consumers are becoming more and more demanding, especially in terms of effectiveness, but also safety,” underlines Soeun Park, Vice President of PFDC Korea, during the launch of the affiliate. “Our primary objective is to better understand their expectations and needs, in order to inform and advise them on the products that are suited to their specific requirements. There is now real potential for development in dermo-cosmetics in Korea. As a forerunner in this field, we are giving ourselves the means to contribute to this market evolution.”

As well as retailing its Avène, Ducray and A-Derma brand products, Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics intends to contribute to the overall development of dermo-cosmetics in Korea, becoming involved with public health initiatives through organizations such as the Atopic Dermatitis Foundation.

Thus, PFDC Korea will be involved in public health actions with the creation of an Atopic Dermatitis Foundation in Korea. “The objective is to help patients and their families better understand and treat this disease,” claims the company.

Accelerated growth in China

At the same time, Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the launch of Avène in China. The brand is now established in 200 Chinese cities and distributed in more than 1,000 sales outlets. One Avène product is sold every 5 seconds in China, via one of the 1,500 advisors employed by the French brand.

China is now one of its three leading international markets of Pierre Fabre Dermo-Cosmetics and the market recording the strongest growth over the past 10 years and this year is no exception (around 30% growth in 2012). The company’s ambition is to double its turnover there in the next 5 years.
